I am an associate professor at the Danish Institute for Advanced Study (DIAS) and the Danish Centre for Health Economics  at the University of Southern Denmark. I received the Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellowship from the European Union in 2021.
My research interests lie in the areas of global health, health economics, and health metrics.  I am committed to reducing health and wealth inequalities globally through my work, and motivated by the belief that research can provide the inputs needed to inform policies and improve resource allocation, and ultimately, impact population health.  See list of publications here

Currently, my ongoing projects include:
  • Commissioner on the Lancet Commission on Investing in Health 3.0, co-chaired by Lawrence Summers and Dean Jamison
  • Measuring experienced burden of disease in Denmark (ExpBoD), funded by the EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship, Independent Research Fund Denmark, and Helsefonden (with Liza Sopina, Emily Johnson, Oleguer Ripoll-Plana, Jes Sogaard)
  • Defining gender (in)equality in health, in collaboration with the Lancet Commission on Gender and Global Health (with Virginia Zarulli, Sarah Hawkes, Kent Buse)
  • Illustrating the differences in care cascade and risk exposure by sex, in collaboration with Global Health 50/50 (with Virginia Zarulli, Sarah Hawkes, ICRW India, APHRC Kenya, and GH50/50 colleagues)
  •  Measuring the gendered impact of climate migration on health and well-being of youth migration, and system capacity in secondary cities in Uganda (with Rawlance Ndejjo, Sarah Ssali, Charles Ssemugabo, Elizabeth Stites, and Kimberly Howe)
  • Impact evaluation of school feeding programs in low- and middle-income countries (with Stephane Verguet and the Research Consortium on School Health & Nutrition)
I received my master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, doctoral degree from Harvard University, and postdoctoral training at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. I grew up in Taiwan and Japan, and am currently based in Copenhagen. When I am not at work, you will find me at local playgrounds pushing my three daughters on swings (for an unreasonable length of time).

I am also a regular contributor to a popular Taiwanese blog site, Crossing (in Mandarin Chinese).
